In a tranquil setting the restaurant with its nice garden invites for a peaceful lunch.

From the terrace you enjoy a view over apple and pine trees.

On cooler days it is more comfortable to enjoy a meal inside in the spruce dining room featuring a fireplace.

Old photographs on the wall tell the history of this house.

Former the building was a Gofio Mill

Back then, one of the first modern "molinas" which instead of wind was powered with diesel-machines.

The mill and the later adapted typical shop, that sold almost everything, belonged to the owner's grandfather.

It remained family-owned, even when the mill was converted into a restaurant.

Yaiza Hernández Pérez manages the Restaurante La Mata for four years.

Until today a special connection with grains has remained.

Grain ears decorate the interior and wheat for the nutritive and hearty stew „potaje de trigo“ is still grown in Garafía.

In the kitchen fresh local products are cooked with great passion.

Goat meat is supplied from nearby, beef and pork comes from the neighbouring village.

A very tasteful treat is the goat cheese produced by the Quesería Luna de Awara.

The cook dedicates herself to Canary Cuisine with rabbit, goat meat and wheat stew as well as international dishes.

Depending on the season she creates dishes that are offered in addition to the main menu.

Sauces served with beef or pork filet can also vary. According to seasonal availability fresh chestnuts, mushroom  or mangos are offered.

Vegetarian can choose among a tasteful selection of appetizers, from sauteéd vegetable up to banana omelettes

Portions are sometimes big and filling like a main dish.

Sweet teeth can finish their meal with homemade desserts like Tiramisú, cheese cream or brownies.

A corridor that connects the interior with the garden offers the possibility to walk by the open kitchen door and briefly watch how meals are prepared.

On weekends and well-frequented days a kitchen help assists. Moreover, in addition to the friendly Alicia there are also the owner Yaiza and one more service staff.

Restaurante La Mata offers a large selection of Palmerian Wines

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wurden freundlich bedient und das Essen war super lecker. Die Anreise in den Norden lohnt sich... Für uns eines der besten Lokale der Insel.
