Dreamlike sunset

— The colour spectacle of a sunset by the sea is one of the events we all enjoy.

In this case, astrophotographer and landscape photographer Kike Navarro visited one of the more remote places on La Palma for this purpose: the Fajana de Franceses in the municipality of Garafía.

There, where the photo was taken, was a very important landing stage until the 1950s. There was no road connection yet and people and goods moved by boat. The houses had shops with shelves selling vinegar, oil, nails, tinned sardines and so on.

Today the tiny place is deserted, or at least almost. Rente lives in one of the buildings of the old harbour. Surrounded by rocks, water and salt, the Palmero has been restoring a ruin for 30 years. For all who pass by, whether locals or tourists, he has good words, advice and perhaps a glass of wine.

The north of the Canary island La Palma is as spectacular as it is wild. Its cliffs flow into a mostly rough sea. On the day the photo was taken, there were also quite high waves, which Kike softened in this photo by taking a long exposure of 20 seconds. So we can see the reflection of the sun on the water.
