Los Guirres - Dark Lava Beach

— Summer is here, the holidays have begun and on La Palma, too, locals and visitors appreciate the proximity to the sea.

There are no kilometres of bright beaches on the Beautiful Island, but the black lava sand sparkles with finely ground minerals. The sun heats it up during the day and in the evening it radiates the stored, healing warmth for a long time.

Kike Navarro shows us his version of summer with one of these wonderful places where parasols are not lined up.

Los Guirres beach (Tazacorte) is a wonderful place to relax and listen to the waves – and not just at sunset.

From February to the beginning of November, strange sounds like "wa waka waka wa" can be heard from nightfall. These are Cory's Shearwaters that come to the island to breed. During the day they search for food at sea and at night they return to their young.

Thanks to the Law for the Protection of the Night Sky of La Palma, not only the scientists of the Astrophysical Institute and astrotourists enjoy the dark nights – it also protects the petrels.
