Wine growing on La Palma - Bodega El Níspero

– Wine enjoyment and good food in the bodega, a recommendation by Ulrich Roth.

The grapes for Eufrosina Pérez Rodríguez's award-winning wines grow at an altitude of 1200 metres. There, in the area of Briesta, Garafía, she has also lovingly prepared her bodega to receive visitors.

Eufrosina was the first woman on La Palma to dedicate herself professionally to winegrowing over 20 years ago. Despite modern technology, she focuses on preserving old traditions and doing without pesticides. This also includes the preservation of the Babosa Negra. This is a grape variety that is rarely found on the island. Together with her son Juan, a trained oenologist, she presses the extraordinary red wine "Essencia" from these grapes.

Whether in the lush green spring or the cool winter, at Bodega El Níspero, it's fun all year round to enjoy the cooking skills and good white and red wines of the friendly winemaker.

On the terraced vineyards of Eufrosina grapes are cultivated like Listán blanco, Albillo, Negramoll, Prieto, Tintilla, Castellana, Vijariego and Almuñeco.

Being the first woman on the island, dedicated professionally to the viticulture, Eurforina had to fight hard to stand up to the male domain in the viti- and viniculture.

With more than 1500 participants from all over the world in March 2015 her “Albillo Fermentado en Barrica” was awarded the silver medal at the “Bacchus” in Madrid.
