restaurant / mediterran
A little Gem in the centre of Santa Cruz
In the thick of the urban hustle of La Palma's capital you find the smallest restaurant of the island.
Almost unremarkable the restaurant is hidden away in a downtown historic two-storey house.
Only a few steps from the busy Avenida El Puente you find the entrance in an ascending side road.
From there you directly enter the upper floor.
There are only 4 Tables for up to 16 Guests
„Bienvenido a esta casa“ - a warm welcome to this house - says a sign on the wall which is exactly how you feel like at Enriclai.
María del Carmen Blanco Medrano and Roberto Battini are exceptional warm hearted and nice hosts. They have taken over the restaurant in 2008 and lose themselves in their work.
There is no written menu, as the offer depends on the availability of fresh ingredients.
The couple goes in for freshness and quality.
Both know where cheese, vegetable, meat and fish come from and they buy only from distributors they trust.
For Carmen it is a delight to create new dishes
One of them is the delectable spinach-soufflé ...
It is an interesting composition of flavours like cinnamon, turmeric, lemon juice, fresh apples, sweet pepper with leafy greens.
With experience, creativity and love cook Carmen refines and emphasizes the special taste of each main ingredient.
Thanks to Roberto, every homemade pasta dish is authentic Italian.
Fine oils, balsamic vinegars and Parmesan cheese top off crispy salads.
A large window front allows the guests a glimpse into the kitchen.
Carmen explains to every guest at the table (also in German or English) which current menus are available and if requested, she also recommends a matching wine.
Excellent wines from the island are from Bodegas like Tagalguén, Piedra Jurada, Durazno or Matías i Torres, however, the offer can vary.
In addition, eight wines from Spanish cultivation areas like Ribera del Duero and Rioja are served.
In case you do not like wine, you can choose between water and beer, sometimes apple juice is offered.
To round off a relaxing lunch or dinner delectable dessert are waiting for you.
There might be Mousse au Chocolat, natural yoghurt, goat milk with fresh strawberries or original bananas from La Palma.
Music is part of the 200 year old History of the Canary House
The pleasant ambience is underlined by soft jazz music.
In the 1940s then owner, José Avila Carballo, played the violin in the well-known Palmerian „Orquesta López“.
He was that good, that he was nicknamed after the American violinist Henry Clay with the Spanish pendent "Enriclai".
He converted the residential house into a restaurant and his name has remained until today.
The „Enriclai“ is a great place to eat and make yourself comfortable
Due to the small number of tables we recommend a reservation.
Among a mixed decoration you find pieces illustrating native Canary inhabitants, the good old time, the "Día de Los Indianos" and toys for smaller guests to play. The restaurant also offers a book of photographs "Indianos en La Palma - Isleños en Cuba" from Selu Vega, which is also available for sale here.
Beautiful evening, great service, Carmen, Pedro and another lady were absolutely wonderful. I even proposed marriage ti my lovely lady (Carol) again!! I hope we are lucky enough to visit again. Thank you for a beautiful evening. Our "family" of guests made it special too. Bless you. Bo.

Volle Punktzahl
