All meals are homemade, most are cooked with local ingredients. In addition to the common dining room the restaurant features a large winter garden.
El Asador del Campesino – Barlovento
The district Barlovento was and still is wedded to agriculture and cattle breeding.
It is a tradition, that you can experience in the Restaurant El Asador del Campesino.
The well-coordinated team of the family-owned restaurant already gained lots of experience in gastronomy when the newly established space in the village Barlovento was adapted in 2010.
Since then, regular customers and tourists enjoy sitting in the light winter garden, which is also easily accessible for wheelchairs and buggies.
Chhildren are very welcome, a high chair is also available.
The management of „Campesino“ lies in the hands of experienced hotel and restaurant specialist José Armando Rodríguez Concepción.
His brother and his brother-in-law give José a hand and are in charge of the service area. Everyone in the team is a good cook, however, José's mother is in charge of preparing tasteful meals with fresh, local ingredients.
Even when the name Asador del Campesino in English means" farmer's grill" not only grilled meat and fish specialities are available but also a wide and varied selection of other dishes. Part of the Canary Cuisine are hearty meals like pork ribs, stews and delicious desserts.
Also crunchy salads, vegetable soups, baked vegetable, cheese, and cake are offered. All dishes are homemade, preferring local products. Thus, fish is only available when fresh.
According to José the most popular dish is „Gofio escaldado con el potaje de trigo canario“.
This meal is a compound of Gofio and a Canary stew. A little unusual but delectable, hearty and filling. Wine lovers can try one of the good wines of La Palma or from the Spanish mainland (Rioja, Ribera del Duero).
The beautiful landscape of Barlovento invites for walks and trips. The hiking maps at the parking lot of the restaurant make perfect starting and return points.
