Harmony between sky and earth

— For this picture, astrophotographer and landscape photographer Kike Navarro took a lot of creative freedom.

The pink viper's buglosses, up to three metres high, are for Kike, and not only for him, one of the most impressive landmarks of La Pama. They adorn the mountains near Roque de los Muchachos every spring and Kike has thousands of photos of these island endemics. His contribution today was to be something unique.

In the early hours of 16 May 2022, La Palma was one of the best places in Europe to observe the total lunar eclipse. A very special event that Kike used to enlarge his subjects with the help of a telephoto lens and separate them from everything else.

In this way we can see the small flowers that form the inflorescence of the viper's bugloss. Apparently they are also looking at the lunar eclipse, which is unfortunately completely out of focus. The depth of field is so shallow that the flowers are already out of focus at a distance of less than 1 cm from the focal plane.

As a result, Kike Navarro gives us an unrepeatable shot that combines the structural complexity of the inflorescence with the harmony of the black background with the moon. Life, the earth - linked with the sky.

Astronomy, astrophotography, night photography and landscape photography are the basis for Kike's excursions.

Whether it's an introduction to astronomy, stargazing with a telescope, courses or photo workshops in Spanish and English – Kike is the right partner.

Those who go stargazing with him will experience constellations, planets and the vastness of the Milky Way at selected locations. It doesn't always have to be the highest mountain. Depending on the desired activity, Kike also accompanies his clients to volcanic landscapes or to the sea. He can also be booked for guided tours of the International Observatory on the Roque de Los Muchachos.
