Close to the stars at Los Andenes

— La Palma's night sky is spectacular.

Even people who were born on the island and have seen it thousands of times still marvel at it every night. So does this good friend of astrophotographer Kike Navarro.

The two were walking from Mirador de los Andenes towards the astrophysical observatory of Roque de los Muchachos. The path runs continuously at over 2100 m above sea level and is lined with the typical plants of the high mountains. Far below is the erosion crater Caldera de Taburiente

In the picture, reddish hydrogen nebulae can be seen in the sky. They are invisible to normal cameras. To be able to show us these special areas where stars normally form, Kike used a modified camera.

For safety reasons, this trail should only be walked at night with a very good guide like Kike. If you walk it during the day, you can enjoy the mountain peaks and views down to the valley floor, if it is not dreaming under a fluffy blanket of clouds.

Here it is easy to understand the friends who, whenever they meet to take pictures (day or night), talk about how lucky they are to live in paradise.
