The main house "La Capirota" is two-storey, a "Sobradada", as only the wealthy farmers could afford it at that time.
The property once also consisted of a pigsty, a barn and a threshing floor. Following the traditional rural living model on La Palma, the buildings are oriented towards the interior of the island to favour the effect of the trade winds that prevail on the Canary archipelago.
On the estate, guests are accommodated in the main house "La Capirota", this was the nickname of the last owner, Carmen Rocha, from whom the current owner bought it in the 90s and then renovated and extended it "poco a poco".
The finca is 8,000 m² in size, has a total built-up area of 408 m², and has a private parking space.
It was lived in by the current owner's parents-in-law, among others, and was also used a lot by her family with their children themselves, which is noticeable in the practical and good furnishings.
On the ground floor, almost the entire length of the house, there is an attached room with a wooden ceiling, a long window fronting the property, a sofa, seating, shelves and storage space, a TV, a dining table and a fireplace – the kitchen, bathroom, dining room and the living room (with wooden stairs to the upper bedrooms) lead off from here. Another room with beds for two (we recommend the room for children) adjoins this living room.
The space in front of the house is beautifully landscaped with a fountain, shade trees, branch swing, lighting, benches as well as an idyllic, somewhat sheltered dining area.
In the house itself there is a rustic dining room that you can use, as well as the aforementioned dining table in the new part of the house. The kitchen is not very large, but is well equipped with an oven, microwave and various cooking utensils, except that there is no dishwasher. Here, a high table offers space for two people.
Next to the kitchen is an alcove where you can find the washing machine, a dryer and cleaning supplies, etc. There is also a small shower room. The small shower room is also accessed through the kitchen. Apart from a rapid heater, magnifying mirror, shower cubicle, washbasin, toilet and some storage space, there is little room here. It should be noted at this point that there is no bathroom on the upper floor, where the two master bedrooms are located.
In the living room with sofa, chaise longue and TV, there are also books, including the work "Arquitectura de La Palma" (Architecture on La Palma), which also contains a report with photos of the house. The "children's bedroom" leads off from the living room, it has glass doors, two pull-out beds, a small desk as well as a clothes rail and a chest. The beautiful Canarian bay window makes a great seating or storage area.
The holiday home offers fast fibre optic internet. The TVs are connected with Chromecast, apps from the mobile phone, such as Netflix, Spotify and Youtube can be used here.
"La Capirota" offers two bedrooms, each with a double bed, separated by a spacious dressing room on the upper floor.
If you go up the wooden stairs in the living room, you will find yourself in the open dressing room, which offers plenty of storage space and shelves with a three-seater, two wardrobes, a chest of drawers, table, shoe rack and chests, on which you can spread out generously.
Both bedrooms there are each furnished with a double bed, bedside tables with reading lamps, mirrors, coat hooks and an armchair in each case. Here, too, beautiful bay windows offer additional seating, and in one of the bedrooms, luggage can still be put in a chest of drawers. The furnishing style is tasteful and adapted to the stately, historic house, it appears pleasantly bright and modern.
The property is laid out like a park with small paths and very nicely planted, or partly left natural.
If you walk past the forecourt with the fountain, the citrus trees and the tree house, you come to a fork in the road to the shed, which is used as equipment storage and for garden tools (it is not accessible to guests). Here you can either continue to the right to the "Mirador", the viewpoint on the steep hill, or follow the left path to the "Pajero", where you will find the barbecue, the covered dining area (with shower bath), the outdoor sofa, the small park-like area as well as the basketball court (separate, cemented, high fence to the road) and the path to the "Era", the old threshing floor, where you will also pass the solarium on the roof terrace of the building located there.
Near the barbecue area with bathroom (incl. shower), the many seating areas, among others covered and with a beautiful tiled table in Spanish style, there is a rustic hall clad inside with natural stone, which together with the small, well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker can additionally be rented for a one-time extra charge (cleaning fee). The pictures for this are marked "Bodega" in the gallery. The barbecue area with the small bathroom (incl. shower) is always accessible to the guests.
If you follow the signpost "La Era", you come to the old circular threshing floor. Here, too, you will find space on benches. It is said that the Guanches, the indigenous people of the island, already used these places, especially to confer, they called it "tagoror" – try it sometime!
The private hiking trail to the "Mirador" leads steeply up to the summit of the local mountain "Los Ríos", where there is also a geodata peak of the National Geographic Institute.
From here you look towards Santa Cruz, the airport (don't worry, it's too far away to disturb with noise), over a football pitch and of course to the Atlantic coast. On the other side you see mountains and an arch of the mountain "Nambroque".
Autochthonous trees typical of the thermophilic laurel forest grow on the property, such as barbusano (Apollonias barbujana), the Canary strawberry tree (Arbustus canariensis), the dragon tree (Dracaena draco), the wild olive tree (Olea cerasiformis) and the palo blanco (Picconia excelsa). You will also find native plants such as the Canary Island bellflower "Bicácaro" or introduced ornamental plants such as strelitzias and other impressive subtropical plants as well as fruit and citrus trees.
